Stampin’ Up! Sympathy Cards

Welcome to Wednesday – the midweek hump :O) And how’s it going for you? It’s going well here. I have two cards for you today, both very similar and are sympathy cards. It’s most unfortunate we need these, but it is necessary and I want them to reflect my sincerity in the family or friend loss. These are pretty simple cards, unfussy, but I think they ‘fill the bill’.

This is the first card, and it uses the Quatrefoil Tile Embossing Folder, Deckled Rectangle Dies, Metallic Edge Cotton Ribbon (wonderful silver trim!), Inspired Thoughts stamp set (sentiment stamped in Smoky Slate ink) and Abigail Rose DSP plus Pastel Pearls in Blue. Here’s the inside and the envelope. The card base is Smoky Slate; layers are Very Vanilla. The DSP is Abigail Rose.

Card 2 uses the very same layout but the card base is Basic White; Abigail Rose DSP but a different pattern, Beauty of Friendship stamp set for the front sentiment (fussy cut) and Inspired Thoughts stamp set for the inside sentiment, each stamped in Smoky Slate ink. Crinkled Seam Binding is the bow with a bit of the Silver cording to tie it together. The Stitched Greenery Die was used for the background and of course, the Deckled Rectangle Dies to die cut the panels of DSP & Basic White. I really like the leaf pattern here and how the Stitched Greenery Die further enhances that aspect. And yes, more of the Pastel Pearls in Blue. They are such a soft shade they easily pass for Smoky Slate even though they aren’t :O)

Gosh, this envelope photo looks blurry! Sorry ’bout that… the DSP is the same Abigail Rose pattern as on the card front. And I stamped the leaf pattern from Cottage Rose stamp set in Smoky Slate ink so it’s soft and not too demanding to the eye.

These are two understated sympathy cards, nothing demanding to the eye and a welcome addition for a sympathy card.

Stampin’ Up! Wonderful Snowflakes and In Color 6×6 DSP

Good Friday morning! Wow – the week has flown… and I have a friendly, wintry card for you today. Wintry – because I’m using Wonderful Snowflakes and In Color 6×6 DSP in Starry Sky. I’ve cut a square just slightly larger than the snowflake and adhered that to a Basic White square a bit larger than that and set it aside while preparing the card base.

The card base is Thick Basic White. I took another panel of regular Basic White and splattered it with my Starry Sky Marker by flicking the brush tip end on the lid, flicking it away from me & onto the panel. When it was covered enough, I added a strip of In Color 6×6 DSP in Starry Sky, and adhered that to a Starry Sky panel slightly larger. I put dimensionals on the back and added it to the card base. I added the square with the Wonderful Snowflake to that with dimensionals as well. Adhesive Backed Seasonal Sequins in white were added, then 2022-2024 In Color Matte Dots in Starry Sky. I wrapped the 2022-2024 In Color Bakers Twine in Starry Sky, around my three fingers three times and tied a knot then adhered it with a glue dot – and the card front was done.

Because I wanted this to just be available for a note (of thanks, of appreciation, whatever) I kept it really simple: A Basic White panel adhered to a Starry Sky panel and into the inside of the card. This could easily serve as a masculine card – and I like having those ready at hand. I can easily add a sentiment & make it a birthday card too :O)

The last but not least – is the envelope… more of the In Color 6×6 DSP in Starry Sky adhered to the envelope flap & trimmed to fit. Done. Oh I do like how this came together :O) Card cuts for this project will be listed at the end of this post.

Stampin’ Up! Perched In A Tree Support

Good morning, good morning. I’ve an encouragement card for you today. A friend of mine has had some health issues for a bit & just needs a ‘pick-me-up’, so I send cards every now & then to let her know she’s in my prayers and not forgotten in her pain. I’ve used Perched In A Tree stamp set with it’s coordinating Aspen Tree Dies – one of my favs.

I’ve tried coloring this sweet bird similar to a chickadee – not sure that worked so that’s why I’m telling you :O). I used Watercolor Pencils after stamping with Memento ink on a Basic White scrap: Basic Black, Basic Gray, Daffodil Delight, Calypso Coral , Whisper White and then blended with a Blender Pen to smooth the lines. It was then die cut with the appropriate die from the Aspen Trees Dies. My next step was to die cut several of these gorgeous leaves from the Aspen Trees Dies: Brushed Metallic paper & Copper Foil Sheets. I used a circle on my desk die cut for another project to create the sun/ moon. I used a Blending Brush with So Saffron ink then Mango Melody ink around the edges. It isn’t real bright cuz it’s on Gray Granite card stock. I used another Blending Brush to add some Balmy Blue ink all over, making it look like sky. It’s very subtle, but definitely there in person. I stamped the tree branch in Soft Suede ink and the sentiment in Memento ink – both from the Perched in a Tree stamp set. The bird was adhered over the branch with dimensionals, then the leaves added with liquid glue. The center leaf is adhered with liquid glue at the stem and a dimensional on its leaf tip for more depth. This panel was added to a Basic Gray card base.

For the inside I stamped the sentiment in Balmy Blue ink using Perched In A Tree stamp set, then used a Blending Brush to add a frame of color to the Basic White panel. I included the large die cut leaf from the Aspen Trees Dies with liquid glue. This leaf was die cut from Copper Foil Sheets. The panel was added to the inside of the Basic Gray card base.

For the envelope, stamp the branch again with Soft Suede ink on the front. Add a strip of Basic Gray that has been run through the Timber 3D embossing folder to the flap, trim to fit. This could so easily be a masculine card, and I don’t have many of those. However, as I mentioned earlier, this for a woman friend this time.

Stampin’ Up! Happier Than Happy Fun Fold

Hello again. Guess what? I have another fun fold for you :O) In card class Thursday we made two fun folds ~ the one I posted yesterday with the Caroling Mice – a swing fold; and the other is the one I’m sharing with you today, made with Happier Than Happy stamp set. This could be masculine or a child’s card because of the colors & DSP. It could also be a woman’s card – it has flexibility.

See what I mean that this could be a child’s card? And these colors too are bright & cheery and wonderful together. Calypso Coral is the card stock base and Sahara Sand is the contrasting color. The DSP is from the Happier Than Happy 12 x 12 DSP pack. So – how to make this card…

Calypso Coral pieces: 5 1/2 x 11, scored on long side @ 4, 5 3/4, 7 1/2, 9 1/4; 5 x 2 1/2 scored at 2 1/2; 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 (inside panel)
Sahara Sand pieces: 2 1/4 x 2 14, 1 1/2 x 5 1/4, 3 3/4 x 5 1/4 – emboss all of these with the Timber 3D embossing folder
Basic White: 2 x 2 (sentiment panel for inside) + additional pieces for stamped items
DSP – Happier Than Happy 12 x 12: 1 1/2 x 5 1/4, cut 2

Begin by adhering pieces to panels 1,3 & 5: that’s DSP, Sahara Sand & Sahara Sand.

Adhere the square Sahara Sand piece to the left area on the scored 5 x 2 1/2 strip. Now adhere this strip to the front panel… with the card closed, place the left Sahara Sand portion on the front so it is equidistant from the left edge of the card & the right side of the card as well. Now, with the card folded accordian-style, adhere the right part of the 5 x 2 1/2 strip to panel 4. Adhere the additional DSP piece over top. Time to do some stamping/ decorating… stamp the front sentiment in Calypso Coral ink on Basic White using the Charming Sentiments stamp set; die cut with the coordinating Sentiment Silhouette Dies. Adhere to the front with mini dimensionals. Stamp the owl, stump and fox from Happier Than Happy stamp set on another Basic White scrap in Sahara Sand ink and die cut with the Happy Forest Friends Dies. Adhere in place as shown in photo. Stamp the inside sentiment (WOOHOO) from Charming Sentiments stamp set on the remaining Basic White 2 x 2 square in Sahara Sand ink and adhere to the inside. For the final touch, add the Rustic Metallic Adhesive-backed Dots. Turn card over & adhere a panel 3 3/4 x 5 1/4 in Basic White on the back for writing a sweet note. DONE!

Last but not least is the envelope… more of the same Happy Forest Friends DSP on the flap, adhered & trimmed to fit. For the front, stamp the cute owl from Happier Than Happy stamp set in Sahara Sand – and it’s all read for someones special birthday :O)

Stampin’ Up! Stylish Shapes, Masculine

Good Wednesday morning! We had rain last night at some point – stove clock and microwave clocks were flashing when I got up. I must have been very sound asleep! Gotta check the rain gage in a bit. How about you ~ what’s going on in your part of the world? Ah, but this post is about card making… so… today’s card is pretty fun and amazingly masculine. The Stylish Sketches stamp set is a FREE one during Sale-a-bration with a qualifying order, and it has a couple of really interesting and different stamps.

When I think masculine, I usually think dark colors. This is anything but that. Take a look at that wolf – isn’t he stunning? We have a couple of wolves in our neighborhood, lots of woods for their den, etc. And we have marveled at them! They are beautiful! So this stamp set was a must for me, when I had options of choice for FREE product. This card has several layers: card base is Thick Basic White, next layer is Smoky Slate with a Basic White embossed panel, adhered ton the card base with dimensionals. And oh yes, the embossing folder is Timeworn Type 3D. The next layer is Smoky Slate and a panel of Gingham Cottage plaid in Smoky Slate. Around that is wrapped Gray Baker’s Twine from the Baker’s Twine Essentials Pack, and tied with a simple knot. Yes, I did add a glue dot under the knot. You also see three Classic Matte Dots in dark gray. This was adhered with dimensionals. To the upper right is the wolf stamped in Memento Black on a Basic White piece and adhered with dimensionals on the right and liquid glue on the left. I also stamped the sentiment in Memento ink and adhered it in the same fashion: dimensionals on the right, liquid glue on the left.

For the inside of the card, I stamped just part of the wolf (as though he is going across our front yard) in Memento Black ink on a Basic White panel, adhered it to Smoky
Slate and then into the card base.

For the envelope, more of the same Smoky Slate Gingham Cottage DSP on the flap and another wolf on the front, stamped in Memento Black ink. I love this wolf! Could be because we have seen a couple of wolves on a daily basis here. And the image is like a true sketch, with extra lines and all. What a fun stamp! Masculine cards do not come easily for me, but with this stamp I can see several possibilities. YAY!! I’ll list dimensions of each of the layers at the end of the post.

Stampin’ Up! Masculine Sympathy

Good Saturday morning! A dear woman friend passed away this week and I needed a sympathy card for her husband. I pulled out the Sun Prints DSP and Natural Prints Dies to get a start. Gosh, Stampin’ Up has some gorgeous Designer Series Papers! I wanted something fairly plain for this card ~ and the husband may not appreciate the handmade card, but I’m hoping the rest of the family will. You see, I have this ‘thing’ about handmade cards/ gifts/ foods, I give from the heart and so these things are giving a part of me. This card is very simple, but it’s still a gift from the heart.

I began with a Starry Sky card base and this shadow-like piece of Sun Prints DSP. On my desk were these die cut in vellum sprays from the Organic Beauty Dies and I die cut one more in Basic White using the Natural Prints Dies. On another piece of the Sun Prints DSP, I stamped this sentiment ‘frame’ using the Lovely & Lasting stamp set and Gray Granite ink. I then stamped the sentiment in the center using the Inspired Thoughts stamp set and Gray Granite ink. I punched it out with the Lovely Labels Punch. I added the natural sprays to the back with Stampin’ Seal, then added dimensionals and attached it to the Sun Prints DSP. I felt it needed something else so made a double bow, kind of folded it in half, put a glue dot on it and slipped it under the banner. I added a piece of Basic White behind the DSP, put dimensionals on this and attached it to the card front.

I kept the inside very simple… just the sentiment from Inspired Thoughts stamp set stamped in Gray Granite ink on the Basic White panel. I adhered this to the inside of the card and that was it.

For the envelope I used more of the Gray Granite piece of the Sun Prints DSP for the flap and called it enough. As I look at the finished card, it feels like it needs more layers of the natural ‘sprays’, but then I think of the individual to whom this is being sent and my gut says no. In other words, I’m not entirely happy with the card, but considering the recipient, it will be just right.

Stampin’ Up! Masculine Birthday Cards

Good Sunday morning to you! I have a couple of fairly quick and easy masculine birthday cards for you today using the Rings of Love DSP that is FREE during Sale-a-bration with a $50 purchase! Let’s take a look.

Isn’t this Rings of Love DSP gorgeous? It’s as though it’s watercolored in shades of blue with a bit of green too. In the card at left I have die cut three rectangles with the Stitched Rectangles Dies to make this fairly clean & simple card. I DID emboss the Basic White panel using the Timeworn Type 3D embossing folder. And… big note here, stamp on the panel PRIOR TO embossing! The birds are from Let’s Set Sail stamp set and stamped in Memento Black ink. The sentiment on the card front is from Wildflower Path stamp set. Steps… just in case I’ve confused you.

Die cut three rectangles using Stitched Rectangles Dies from Rings of Love DSP. Place on the Basic White panel to indicate where the birds should be stamped.
Stamp birds in Memento Black ink with the Let’s Set Sail stamp set on Basic White panel
Stamp sentiment in Night of Navy ink with the Wildflower Path stamp set on same panel
Emboss Basic White panel with the Timeworn Type 3D embossing folder
Place rectangles once more, adhere the two bottom ones, then put dimensional on third rectangle and attach
Add this panel to a Night of Navy piece just slightly larger
Add this completed panel to a Thick Basic White card base with dimensionals ~ and the front is done.

For the second card, I used my Stamparatus to make the stamping quite easy. And… this idea came from a team mate, Akiko Sudano – thank you Akiko! The stamp set is Biggest Wish…

With the DSP in the Stamparatus and knowing I wanted to stamp the ‘Happy” from bottom to top, I stamped that word in full strength Night of Navy ink.
I moved the Stamparatus plate to the next ‘grid’ and stamped again, this time re-inking, stamping off on a separate scrap and stamping on the DSP
I moved the plate one more ‘grid’ and did not re-ink but stamped immediately. This gave three gradations of the word
Remove that word, place ‘birthday’ on the DSP, bring the Stamparatus plate down to pick up stamp, ink with Parakeet Party ink.
Clean stamp, re-ink with VersaMark, stamp again. Sprinkle with Clear Embossing Powder and heat set with the Heat Tool.
Adhere this completed piece to a panel of Night of Navy card stock.
Cut a strip of Parakeet Party card stock and add to the Night of Navy panel. Wrap two lengths of 2022-2024 In Color Bakers Twine in Starry Sky around this strip, tie a know and secure in place under the knot with a glue dot.
Add three 2022- 2024 In Color Matte Dots in Starry Sky.
Put dimensionals on back of panel & add to Thick basic White card base ~ and this card front is done!

Card to left: stamp splotch using Garden Green ink, stamped off and Oceanfront stamp set. Stamp over it with the sentiment: Night of Navy ink and the Hello Beautiful stamp set… all on a Basic White panel. Add this to a Night of Navy card stock then to the inside of the card – finis!

Card to right: stamp sentiment in Night of navy ink using the Hello Beautiful stamp set. Add a strip of Rings of Love DSP to the bottom of the Basic White panel. Adhere this to a Night of navy piece then to the inside of the card – finis!

As you can see, both envelopes were treated the same… a panel of Rings of Love DSP adhered to the flap. Each card is different, yet using the same DSP and I love that – it shows versatility! And, I can’t decide which card I prefer. Would love to know what you think!

Stampin’ UP! Seasons of Chic Leaves

Except for yesterdays Blog Hop in which I participated, I have focused on the Seasons of Chic Bundle for my cards this week. I am enamored with the versatility of this stamp set & dies. Today’s card is no exception. And I’ve certainly let you know how I gravitate toward monochromatic cards.

The card base is thick Basic White. The next two layers are Shimmery White Paper. It’s a cross between Basic White and Very Vanilla, just not so creamy as the VV. Here’s what I did…

Die cut the front panel of Shimmery White card stock with Stitched Rectangles Dies. I used the smallest of the large set of dies.
Use Foam adhesive strips to line the rectangle and portions of the card to layer on another panel of Shimmery White card stock. SEE PHOTO.

Remove backing on strips and adhere to the slightly larger Shimmery White Paper.
Stamp the two-step leaf from Seasons of Chic stamp set in Petal Pink ink and Sahara Sand ink (both second generations), then die cut with the Chic Dies. It’s nearly impossible to see in this photo, but the vein stamp is in Sahara Sand ink, the other leaf stamp was stamped first in second generation Petal Pink ink.
Die cut two more leaves in Shimmery White.Layer the three leaves together adhering with liquid glue along the stems.
Tie a bow with strands of Linen Thread & Simply Elegant Trim in Gold, together and around the stems. Add a touch of liquid glue to the knot so it stays in place.
Put dimensionals on the stamped leaf and adhere to the die cut frame cutout.
Add three Iridescent Pearls Basic Jewels too the card.
Adhere the two Shimmery White Paper panels to the Thick Basic White card base.

For the inside… Stamp the sentiment in Sahara Sand ink from the Seasons of Chic stamp set. Add two more of the die cut leaves (these are smaller & different from those on front, but die cut from Shimmery White Paper) to the Basic White panel. Adhere panel to the inside of the card. DONE!

For the envelope, I stamped this stunning leaf (w/ veins) to the front and on the flap ~ second generation Sahara Sand ink. Oh boy… I really, really like this card! What can I say… this Season of Chic Bundle is a MUST HAVE!

Stampin’ Up! Textured Chic Specialty Paper for the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

Happy Thursday! I’ve had such fun this week creating with the Seasons of Chic Bundle and the Textured Chic Specialty Paper. One of the best parts is the set is so versatile: summer with shells, fall with leaves, winter with snowflakes and MORE. It’s a timeless set! So here we are for the Blog Hop…

The them challenge is Designer Series Paper…and I’ve chose the Textured Chic Specialty Paper

And here’s my card for today…

Isn’t it amazing there is so much variety in this DSP (Textured Chic Specialty Paper) and stamp bundle: Seasons of Chic? And what I’ve done here is add snowflakes from two sources: the large one is Wonderful Snowflakes; the other two are dies in the Chic Dies. I’ve die cut them from the paper of the Wonderful Snowflakes because I liked the shine of the paper :O) Pretty cool, right?! In the center of each of the snowflakes is a Pastel Pearl.

Textured Chic Specialty Paper is layered on Basic White card stock, adhered with liquid glue. That has dimensionals and is adhered to the Basic Gray card base. Pretty simple card front. Just the same – beautiful.

For the inside, I had a piece of trimmed Textured Chic Specialty Paper on the table and adhered it to the Basic White panel. I simply added this to the inside of the card and loved the simplicity.

For the envelope… more of the same Textured Chic Specialty Paper for the flap, then the front was stamped with snowflakes from the Seasons of Chic stamp set in Basic Gray – two of which were stamped off once.

Stampin’ Up! Perched In A Tree for the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

It’s that time of week for the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop. You may have come from the fun creation of Tara Carpenter or just hopped in right here. Whatever the case… welcome!

Our challenge is a color one: Black & White + color of choice. I chose Balmy Blue, which you can see in the background between the trees. Snow gets a fun tinge to it when it’s falling at dusk :O) The challenge is below.

Back to my card… I die cut the Basic White front panel with the Aspen Trees Dies. It coordinates with Perched In A Tree stamp set and comes as a bundle (which means 10% off!). Remember, this bundle is available Jul 1 – which is Friday – woohoo!!! OK, card… I keep getting distracted. I used a Blending Brush to shade the aspens and Basic Gray ink. I love the look it gave. I set that aside and took another panel of Basic White and stamped the ‘snowflakes’ in Balmy Blue. I stamped the sweet bird in Memento ink and colored it with Watercolor Pencils in Balmy Blue and Early Espresso. I used a Blender Pen to smooth the pencil lines. I die cut the bird with the Aspen Trees Dies and adhered it with liquid glue. I did move it around a bit before I found the right spot, cuz wanted him peeking out of the trees. The Aspen die cut got lots of dimensionals & was adhered to the snow-stamped panel. That was added to the Thick Basic White card base. I stamped the sentiment in Basic Gray ink – love, love the font! – and fussy cut it. I used Stasmpin’ Seal on the back and wrapped a length of the Simply Elegant Trim in Silver on the back, then added dimensionals and placed it on the front. Final touch – a bit of glam with three Adhesive-Backed Seasonal Sequins in white.

For the inside… Using a Blending Brush I added Balmy Blue all around the edges of the Basic White panel, then stamped the sentiment from Perched In A Tree stamp set in Basic Gray ink. This was added to the inside of the card.

For the envelope, more Balmy Blue ‘snowflakes’ to the flap and the wonderful Aspen branch stamped in Basic Gray to the front. I really, really like this. And yes, I took some liberties and substituted Basic Gray for the Black for the challenge. :O) Now – it’s time to get on with the hop!
