Stampin’ Up! Cap & Gown Graduation Card

Graduations can be so exciting and wonderful and a milestone. And l-o-n-g. Our grandson graduated from college on Thursday, cum laude no less. So proud of him. Of course there was a card …

Stampin' Up! Cap & Gown Graduation card front

I began with a panel of Basic White 3 3/8 x 4 3/4, Peach Pie ink and my Blending Brush, to create a background. Next I stamped the gown in Memento Black ink – from the Cap & Gown stamp set (ONLINE EXCLUSIVE). On scraps of Basic White I stamped the mortarboard and diploma, also in Memento black ink – and fussy cut these with my paper snips. I added these with trimmed down dimensionals. I added the panel to a Basic Black piece 3 1/2 x 4 7/8, put dimensionals on the back and attached it to the Thick Basic White card base 4 1/4 x 11 scored at 5 1/2. I die cut the number from Classic Letters Dies (ONLINE EXCLUSIVE) and adhered them directly to the card front. The sentiment is from Cap & Gown stamp set, stamped in Memento Black ink and die cut with the Unbounded Love Dies 24-25 Annual Catalog). I added a banner behind this in Peach Pie 1/2 x 3 creating banner ends with my paper snips. I attached this to the card front with liquid glue at the top and dimensionals at the bottom.

Stampin' Up! Cap & Gown Graduation card inside

For the inside, another panel of Basic White (4 x 5 1/4) colored lightly with the Blending Brush and Peach Pie ink – no ink added to the blending brush this time. The sentiment is stamped using the Cap & Gown stamp set & Memento Black ink. The letters are again die cut using the Classic Letters Dies. This panel was added to Basic Black then to the inside of the card base.

Stampin' Up! Cap & Gown, inside

Since we were sending a check to our beloved grandson, we wanted to be certain it remained secure and didn’t get ‘lost in the shuffle’ so to speak. I cut a panel 3 1/4 x 2 1/2, used a circle punch to create an opening, then drew freehand the squiggly lines and dots to make certain what was inside wasn’t missed. I added Tear ‘n Tape to three sides and attached it to the upper portion of the inside of the card. The folded check slid in nicely and was held securely in place :O)

Stampin' Up! Cap & Gown card & envelope

For the envelope… I stamped another image of the mortar board all over the flap and once on the lower right front corner – Memento ink of course. With concerns this might be opened by some scoundrel prior to it reaching him, we placed the card in a larger manilla envelope that wasn’t decorated at all.

Our grandson… the bearded one looking all serious … taken from our computer screen. This was a huge hall they were in for the graduation and tickets were sparingly given to the family – not enough for us to attend. But thank goodness we could watch it on livestream!!! 3 1/2 hours of livestream… but we saw him several times, listened to the valedictorian who gave an awesome speech, and all the other speeches as well. You know how that goes. We are proud grandparents :O)

Stampin’ Up! Trusty Tools for a Graduation Card

Happy Mother’s Day all you readers… You may remember last weekend I attended a convention, a one of my fellow ‘conventioners’ asked for a special graduation card as the graduate is going into auto mechanics. I pulled out Trusty Tools to see what I could do. I also used a couple of other stamp sets.

Stampin' Up! Trusty Tools graduation card

This doesn’t look much like a graduation card, does it? At least not on the front. Here’s what I did though… I pulled out Boho Blue for the card base (school colors are blue and something else, the woman couldn’t remember) … and stamped the front with what looks like parts welded together, stamped in Smoky Slate. It comes from the new & fabulous Adventurous Sky stamp set. Next I die cut this center panel that looks like a peg board from new Textured Metallic Specialty 12×12 Paper. The color is Tungsten. From the Trusty Tools stamp set and coordinating dies, I pulled out items that I thought an auto mechanic would typically use – wrenches bolts, nuts and an oil can. I stamped in Memento ink the adjustable wrench, the other items I simply die cut. The oil can is from Silver Foil Sheets and cut twice, the other being Blueberry Bushel. I trimmed off the blue oil can top and adhered the blue bottom to the silver oil can – for contrast. I put this on dimensionals and added it to the peg board. The one wrench – the non adjustable one – is adhered directly with liquid glue, the adjustable one is on dimensionals. The screw & bolts are attached with glue as well. I added the peg board to the card front with mini dimensionals.

Stampin' Up! Trusty Tools, card inside

I began the inside by cutting the toolbox bottom from Country Woods DSP. I adhered the base to the Basic White inside panel then attached the leftover hole centers from the peg board to the holes created by the toolbox bottom die cut. (Clever me!!) Using another piece of the Textured Metallic Specialty Paper in Tungsten, I die cut the handle and added it as well. Then it was – now what??? I pulled out Cap & Gown stamp set and stamped the cap in Memento ink & ‘Class of’ in Blueberry Bushel. I stamped the sentiment on the toolbox using the Trusty Toolbox stamp – again in Blueberry Bushel ink. The numbers (Boho Blue ink) & stars (Blueberry Bushel ink) come from Alphabest stamp set, a retired one. The gold hearts are from it’s coordinating dies.

Stampin' Up! Trusty Tools graduation, card back

Since there was noway to send a written greeting on the inside of the card, I added another piece of Basic White to the back of the card. On it is the sentiment stamped in Blueberry Bushel from the Cap & Gown stamp set.

Stampin' Up! Trusty Tools gradiation card & envelope

For the envelope, I did a simple stamp of the cap in Blueberry Bushel and the diploma in Memento black ink – both from the Cap & Gown stamp set.

Stampin’ Up! Grand Kid Graduation

Masculine cards are sometimes difficult for me ~ I want to get it right on so many levels. Well, I think this card does that – gets it right. It’s a graduation card for a young man with learning disabilities: his graduating from high school is a big deal and he is so excited. Let’s take a peek.

Grand Kid Graduation.1

I began with the In Good Taste DSP and worked around that. And… I’ll be honest, I found a card on Pinterest that I CASEd (Etsy to be exact – from several years ago). The ‘cap’ is made with the Tailored Tag Punch and Basic Black card stock. I found that idea on Pinterest as well 🙂 Punch the tag, then trim to the longest points – perfect cap!. Next I punched a small hole in the center for the homemade tassel. I wrapped White Baker’s twine from the Baker’s Twine Essential Pack, around a credit card several times – and well, this is how it turned out. I pushed the twine through the hole in the cap and secured it with Seal+ then taped over that. A single Black Matte Dot was perfect to cover the opening and give the cap the finishing touch. I put dimensionals on the back and secured it to the card front. I added a glue dot under the tassel knot to keep it in place.

Next I created the banner to show the year of graduation. With Smoky Slate card stock I trimmed the ends of each banner with the Banners Pick a Punch. The numbers were created using the Playful Alphabet Dies and Basic Black card stock and adhered with dabs of liquid glue. Each banner got dimensionals on the back and adhered as you see them. I used Black card stock once again to create the center area and simply glued that in place with liquid glue. I then wrapped a bit of Shimmer Ribbon in Gray Granite on top of the black strip and adhered it in back with Seal+ The ‘Graduation’ banner is stamped in Smoky Slate on Basic White using the A Wish for Everything stamp set. This was adhered over the ribbon with dimensionals. I adhered the completed DSP panel to a larger piece of Smoky Slate card stock with liquid glue, added dimensionals to the back and attached it to the Basic Black card base.

Grand Kid Graduation.2

The inside is super simple… the sentiment is stamped in Memento Black ink using A Grand Kid stamp set onto Basic White card stock. That was adhered to Smoky Slate (yep, liquid glue) then to the inside of the card – and voila! Card is complete.

For the envelope I covered the flap with the same In Good Taste DSP. Done, done.

Grand Kid Graduation.3

This card could be made feminine by simply changing out the DSP – and using the same layout. I really like it. Card cuts will be listed at the end of the post.
