Stampin’ Up! Poppies Congratulations

Poppies, poppies – love these poppies! Painted poppies & the Poppy Moments Dies are not new items in the 2021-2022 Annual Catalog. But… they are – gorgeous – and fun to use. And today’s card features these items – and more.

Poppies Congratulations.1

This card uses the new 2021-2023 In Color Shimmer Vellum for die cuts on the leaves. Unfortunately the shimmer doesn’t really show in the photo – but it’s there! And the Vellum color is Soft Succulent. It is paired with regular vellum as well. Let’s do a step by step that will easily share all the elements of this card.

  • The card base is Sahara Sand card stock 4 1/4 x 11 scored at 5 1/2
  • Layer a panel of Neutrals 6×6 card stock in Sahara Sand to the card front. It is 4 14 x 5 1/2.
  • Die cut sections of the poppy from Basic White card stock: the poppy outline and the two layered centers. These use the Poppy Moments Dies.
  • Die cut the flower itself and the larger portion of the leaves in regular vellum.
  • Die cut the leaf embellishment using the 2021-2023 In Color Shimmer Vellum in Soft Succulent.
  • Color the backside of the vellum flower using Dark Cherry Cobbler Blends. Adhere the flower together with dimensionals. Adhere flower to the card base with a single dimensional
  • Using very little liquid glue, adhere the leaf parts together. Trim one of the leaf sections in two parts. Adhere under the poppy with small amounts of liquid glue
  • Stamp the sentiment using the Peaceful Moments stamp set and Memento Black ink. Die cut with the Ornate Frames Dies. Adhere to the card front with dimensionals
  • Add 2021-2023 In Color Jewels in Evening Evergreen and the card front is done!
Poppies Congratulations.2
  • For the inside of the card…
    • adhere a strip of the Neutral 6×6 DSP to the left of a Basic White panel 4 x 5 14
    • Stamp the poppy from Painted Poppies stamp set in Memento Black ink and color with Stampin Blends: Dark Cherry Cobbler & Dark Soft Succulent.
    • Stamp the sentiment from Peaceful Moments stamp set in memento black ink
    • Adhere panel to the inside of the card – VOILA!
Poppies Congratulations.3

For the envelope I stamped the very same poppy as the inside of the card on the front of the envelope: Painted Poppies stamp set + Memento Black ink, then colored with Stampin Blends Dark Cherry Cobbler & Dark Soft Succulent. The flap was covered with a strip of Sahara Sand Card Stock & more of the Neutrals 6×6 DSP in Sahara Sand and trimmed to fit.

Such a fun card and I do love these poppies! I like having a congratulations card on hand at all times – perfect for many celebrations. And – this could be used for a man as well. Because of the background paper it is not particularly feminine – and that’s good thing 🙂

Stampin’ Up! Stitched Leaves Dies & Sympathy

Hello Again – nice to be with you. We have a light rain this morning and I am supposed to have some folks come for a class at 10 AM – OUTSIDE! I think we’ll wait to see what it does… the radar isn’t showing anything 😳

OK – today’s card is a sympathy card and mailed already. Sympathy cards are like that, they need to go right away. I love the simplicity of this card and have done something like it before, but sometimes when it’s a good layout – why not?

Stitched Leaves Dies & Sympathy – #1

The Gilded Autumn Specialty DSP is part of the showstopper here, but the leaf… wow – it’s a stunner. I really like how it has the stitching inside showing leaf detail, and behind it is another but die cut from Brushed Metallic in Copper. Behind that is a Very Vanilla panel die cut using the Stitched Rectangles Dies.

Let’s go back a little bit as I kinda got ahead of myself.

  • Begin with a Thick Very Vanilla card base 4 1/4 x 11
  • Die cut copper leaf from the center of a panel of Brushed Metallic card stock 4 1/8 x 5 3/8. It’s going to be covered by the DSP and no one will ever know!
  • Gilded Autumn Specialty DSP ( 3 7/8 x 5 1/8) is layered onto the Brushed Metallic panel with liquid glue.
  • Adhere these directly to the card base with liquid glue.
  • Die cut the rectangle using Stitched Rectangle Dies and Very Vanilla card stock. Adhere to the card front with liquid glue, centering.
  • Die cut a leaf using the Stitched Leaves Dies from Very Vanilla cs (3 3/4 square of VV will do it). Adhere the two leaves together with Stampin Seal, keeping the ends of the leaves loose. Adhere to the rectangle with liquid glue.
  • Add a bow using the 1/16″ Gold cord from the Wonder of the Season Ribbon Combo Pack.
  • Front sentiment: this comes from Field of Flowers stamp set and was stamped in Soft Suede ink – having stamped off at least once. The sentiment banner is a Very Vanilla strip 1/2″ x however long the sentiment :O) Adhere with dimesnionals.

The inside…

Love of Leaves & Peaceful Moments stamp sets
  • Stamp the sentiment using the Peaceful Moments stamp set and Soft Suede ink onto a Very Vanilla panel 4 x 5 1/4. Stamp full strength!
  • Stamp the leaf from the Love of Leaves stamp set and Soft Suede ink, stamping off at least twice.
  • Adhere directly to the inside of the card and Voila! Your card is complete.

For the envelope…

Love of Leaves & Gilded Autumn – #3
  • Stamp the leaf on the front of the Very Vanilla envelope with Soft Suede ink, stamping off 2-3 times.
  • Cut a panel of the Gilded Autumn Specialty DSP 2 1/4 x 6, adhere with liquid glue to the flap and trim to fit. Done.

This makes such an elegant yet simple card, it would be easy to make several just like it using various patterns of this DSP – and they would all look different due to the DSP or ribbons used. And of course the sentiment could be changed to happy birthday or thinking of you or congratulations.

I’ve already given you the card cuts, and the product list is below.

Thanks for stopping by.

May you have a beautiful day.

Stampin’ Up! Painted Poppies DSP and More

Today’s cards use mostly the Stampin’ Up! Painted Poppies Designer Series paper. The focus is the DSP, but there are other elements too: sentiments, die cuts – like that. Read on for more info! 🙂

I decided to share both of these cards today as the layout is so similar, but by adding another element (sentiment at the bottom) as is the case of the second card, it gives it a completely different look. Would love to hear if you prefer one card over the other.

Here are the details…

Card #1 – the red poppies

  • Whisper White card base 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5 1/2″; for inside, 3 3/8″ x 4 1/8″
  • Poppy Parade layer 3 1/2″ x 4 1/4″. Cut 2, one for inside.
  • Using the 1″ x 4″ framelit from the Ornate Layers Dies, cut three pieces from the DSP, in sequential order so you see the picture/ connections to each frame. Notice how frame #1 carries over to frame #2, and that follows into frame #3? Once all are cut, put  dimensionals on the back.
  • TIP…Using your grid paper as a guideline for the best centering. place the middle frame first onto the Poppy Parade, then place the remaining two frames.
  • Wrap ribbon around this entire section (see photo), and tie a knot or bow. I like bows and nearly always do this. 🙂 This is a retired item (sorry!) but another option would be to color a length of baker’s twine using your Stampin’ Blends Old Olive, which would work beautifully!
  • Stamp your sentiment on Whisper White using Stazon Jet Black ink. This one is from Peaceful Moments stamp set but could easily be a birthday or hello friend. The options are limitless! Cut with framelit that fits your sentiment- again this diecut is from ……. Adhere with dimensionals.
  • Now adhere the entire Poppy Parade section to the card base using dimensionals and the card front is complete!

The inside is super easy…

  • On the remaining section of Whisper White, stamp your sentiment in Stazon Jet Black ink. Stazon gives such a clear stamp and I like how it looks. For this sentiment, I taped off the “with all my heart” before inking the stamp, then removed the tape and voila – a perfect  “thinking of you”. This sentiment is from Peaceful Moments stamp set.
  • Adhere the Whisper White to the remaining section of Poppy Parade, using liquid glue.

The envelope get’s special treatment too…

  • Using liquid glue, adhere a 2 1/4″ x 6″ piece of coordinating DSP to the envelope flap. Trim.
  • Using the “fill in” stamp, ink with Poppy Parade, stamp off at least once, then onto your envelope front.
  • Using the smaller poppy stamp, ink with the Stazon Jet Black and stamp over the “filler” stamp.
  • TIP…Because of the thickness of this card, it will need extra postage when sending in the mail. And this card is already out the door and in the mail. Our daughter asked for a card that was colorful and reflective of the woman friend who recently passed away ~ this is for her husband.

Card #2 is very similar, dimensions are a bit different for the card front and the inside. Here’s the picture again…

  • Highland Heather 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5 1/2″
  • Whisper White: 3 1/4″ x 4 1/8″ for the outside, 4 x 5 1/4″ for the inside, scrap approximately 3 1/8″ x 1 1/8″
  • Scrap from the DSP for the sentiment on the front.

I wanted the sections of the DSP to be more reflective of the picture, so placed them closer together and of course, cut the Whisper White section smaller as well. Follow the above directions for placement, etc. as they are the same.

Here’s where the difference is…

  • For the sentiment at the bottom… I stamped the “hello” from the Timeless Tropical stamp set right onto a scrap from the DSP. I like how it coordinates with the upper section.
  • Cut a rectangle from Whisper White from the Stitched Rectangles Dies.
  • Adhere the hello sentiment with dimensionals to the rectangle just cut and apply dimensionals to the rectangle.
  • Placement for the card front sections… again, using your grid paper, center the bottom piece first, then center the upper section. YAY – card front is complete.

For the inside…

  • Stamp the poppy from Painted Poppies stamp set in Memento Black ink onto Whisper
White 4″ x 5 1/4″; color using Stampin’ Blends light and dark Rich Razzleberry and light and dark Granny Apple Green for the leaf and stems. I used no sentiment on this piece as it is for a special note.
  • Adhere to the card base using liquid glue.

For the envelope…

  • Cut a piece of coordinating DSP 2 1/4″ x 6″, adhere with liquid glue to the envelope flap and trim.
  • Stamp the poppy from Painted Poppies stamp set, then color using the light and dark Rich Razzleberry Stampin’ blends, light and dark Granny. Apple Green for the stems and leaf. TIP…slip a piece of scrap into the envelope prior to using the Stampin’ Blends. Remember they bleed through, so to prevent this you need a something to bleed onto instead of the envelope back!

This card too is already in the mail – sent to a special woman who has had health struggles with cancer this year – and she loves purple. Do you think she will like this card? As in Card #1, this also needs extra postage. What I know is, even when it costs more to send, I KNOW the recipient is appreciative and that makes the difference.

Thanks for stopping by… May you have a beautiful day.

Make someone happy by sending them a handmade card.
