Stampin’ Up! Flowering Fields DSP Just a Note

Happy Monday! It’s bright & sunshiny here today, but brrrr cold. I hope you had a cozy weekend, a time to relax and a time to play with maybe just a little bit of work mixed in – balance. It’s all about balance, isn’t it?

Today’s card is another using this fabulous tulip pattern from the Flowering Fields 12 x 12 DSP pack. I really like this pattern and well, I just needed to create with it again. :O) This is such a fun layout and a post by Amy Koenders way back in November inspired me. Yesterday I posted a card made with this same pattern of DSP but bordered with Poppy Parade. Today I’ve used Pear Pizzazz and it gives the DSP a different look. The background paper is from this same pack, just not the flowery side 🙂 Here are the details…

Flowering Fields Just a note.1`
  • Prepare a card base (Pear Pizzazz) 4 1/4 x 11, scored at 5 1/2
  • Cut a panel of Flowering Fields DSP 3 1/2 x 4 3/4; cut in half lengthwise; cut right half 1 3/4 x 1 3/4, then 1 3/4 x 2 3/4
  • Adhere pieces to Pear Pizzazz: 1 7/8 x 4 7/8; 1 7/8 x 1 7/8; 1 7/8 x 2 7/8. Put dimensionals on back and adhere, large left panel first, the the right pieces.
  • Slip a length of Crinkled Seam Binding in White behind the lower panels and tie a bow, securing at the knot with a glue dot.
  • Stamp the sentiment from Flowing Flowers stamp set in Evening Evergreen ink on a Basic White strip; trim right end at an angle; put dimensionals on back and add over the ribbon.
  • For a final bit of bling, add three Opal Rounds ~ and the card front is done!

For the inside…

  • Stamp the leaves from Flowering Rain Boots in Pear Pizzazz ink on a post it note & fussy cut to create a mask – set aside
  • Stamp the leaves from Flowering Rain boots in Pear Pizzazz in on a Basic White panel 4 x 5 1/4
  • Lay the mask on top of the leaves and stamp the flower pot in Calypso Coral ink, again using the Flowering Rain Boots stamp set
  • Stamp the flower tops in Poppy Parade ink, making sure to only stamp the needed flower heads. And yes, these are from Flowering Rain Boots stamp set.
  • Using a Stamparatus for proper alignment, stamp the sentiment from Flowing Flowers stamp set in Evening Evergreen ink.
  • Add panel to the inside of the card with liquid glue.

For the envelope….

All I did to the envelope is simply add the same Flowering Fields 12 x 12 DSP that I used for the background on the front of the card, to the envelope flap ~ and it’s ready for mailing! If the mailman hasn’t arrived yet, this will go to a friend who just had a knee replacement. She loves a handmade card!

Stampin’ Up! Watercolor Pencils and True Love DSP

Hello! I hope today finds you well, in good spirits and ready to create something beautiful ~ oh, and have fun while you’re doing it. 😍 I happen to like coloring and chose to work with my Watercolor Pencils, which I haven’t used in what seems like forever. They give a wonderfully soft look, unlike the Alcohol Blends which are much more bold. Don’t get me wrong, I like the Blends too. They just give a different result. One of the nice parts about coloring, at least for me, is I don’t have to think about it much. I can listen to a podcast, or have the TV on (I don’t do that very often!) – it’s called multi-tasking 😁

Watercolor Pencils & True Love DSP – #1

Isn’t this just soft and lovely? I kept changing the pencils I was using for every flower and the leaves as well. It was so fun to play… The painted flower pot holding my pencils is one I did many, many years ago when I was teaching Tole Painting. 😌 Let’s do a close-up of the flowers on the card.

Watercolor Pencils & True Love DSP – #2, #3

You can see in these photos how the colors vary. The largest flower in the top left, the pencils used were Flirty Flamingo and Melon Mambo – Melon Mambo for the center. The leaves were Granny Apple Green and Garden Green. The smaller flower in the upper left was the same, just more Melon Mambo. The upper right leaf in that same photo is Granny Apple Green and Old Olive. And the orangey flower & leaf… Pumpkin Pie and the leaf is Granny Apple Green. After using the Watercolor Pencils on each flower, I then used the Blender Pen to smooth the pencil lines.

In the photo at right I used Rich Razzleberry for one of the flowers and Flirty Flamingo by itself for the flower closest to it. The darkest flower is mostly Cherry Cobbler and Melon Mambo in places. I always used the darker colors in the middle and left bare areas for contrast. They almost look real, don’t they?

  • I colored a panel of True Love DSP 4 x 6 then trimmed it to 4 x 5 1/4, removing a portion from each end. I used those trimmings on the inside of the card, which you will see in a bit.
  • Next I took a Stitched Rectangle Die to die cut the inside of the panel.
  • I layered the larger panel on Basic. Black, adhering with liquid glue.
  • I wrapped that panel with Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon and tied it in a knot. I took another, smaller length and tied it on as well.
  • Layer this on the card base with liquid glue. (If I were hand delivering this card I would put it on dimensionals.)
  • Now layer the smaller panel on Basic Black with liquid glue, then to the card front with dimesnionals, matching the flowers and leaves. You do have to be careful as it would be easy for this layer to go on upside down…
  • Using the Double Oval punch and Basic Black, punch the larger oval using the scallop.
  • On Basic White card stock, stamp the sentiment from the Posted For You stamp set in Memento Black ink and punch with the smaller of the ovals using the Double Oval Punch.
  • Add three Opal Rounds to the sentiment banner, add dimensionals to the back and add to the center of the3 card.

For the inside…

Watercolor Pencils & True Love DSP – #4

Remember I removed the ends of the 4 x 6 DSP panel after coloring? And… here they are! The Pumpkin Pie flower is to the left and the Flirty Flamingo to the right. Each strip was adhered with liquid glue to a Basic White panel, then to a slightly larger Basic Black piece – also with liquid glue. This went into the card base with liquid glue and finis… the card is complete! Love, love, love. And I hope you like it too.

Because this card will be part of my class on Tue, Feb 9, I will demonstrate the coloring on a strip for the envelope flap. You’ll just have to use your imagination 🙂

Bloom and Grow with coordinating Budding Blooms dies

Oh my goodness… I think I have shared with you how much I enjoy coloring. If not, well now you know 😏 The weather here was gray, overcast and rainy – a bit on the dreary side to say the least. Hubby was home and wanted a fire in the fireplace so I brought my crafty stuff to that cozy spot and had a “jolly good” time.

The night before I had taught a class and demonstrated coloring with blends. I had stamped and cut some extra pieces so I could demo a different color than what we were making in class. I only did one the night of the class and this set was calling me to do more. With this delightful, cozy setting of the fireplace ablaze, our Springer Spaniel lying close to the fire and my hubby reading, I couldn’t resist staying close by.

Here are the cards… card 1 is the one created in class. The others are what I completed yesterday afternoon. n

Blends used varied with each card… the first is Poppy Parade and coordinating blends with Petal Pink both light and dark blends for the back ground; and Call Me Clover light and dark for the leaves, Poppy Parade dark for the berries. The next card shows Granny Apple Green light & dark blends for the back ground, Petal Pink light & dark for the flowers, Mint Macaron light & dark blends for the leaves, and light Flirty Flamingo for the berries. The next card was kept very simple – no card stock background and I love it! Highland Heather light & dark blends for the flowers, Granny Apple Green light & dark blends for the leaves, dark Flirty Flamingo for the berries and Soft Seafoam light and dark blends for the back ground. Card four: light Poppy Parade + dark Petal Pink for the flowers, Granny Apple Green light & dark blends for the leaves, soft Seafoam light and dark blends for the background and oh yes, dark Poppy Parade for the berries. Last but not least: the yellow card is affixed to Daffodil Delight card stock but is colored using both light and dark Mango Melody blends, Old Olive light and dark for the leaves and dark Flirty Flamingo for the berries, Mint Macaron light and dark blends for the back ground. Whew – a whole lot of fun!

Remember when using the blends, it’s better to start with the darker shade first and only do a small area then sweep in with the lighter blend to do what – blend together. 😁 The reason for doing small areas is to keep the blend moist so it easily “moves” for the blending process.

I hope you enjoyed todays post. Would you share with me which card you like the most… I’m leaning toward the Highland Heather but I also really like the yellow card. I also liked putting the card stock on an angle as opposed to straight on. Do you have thoughts on that?
