Stampin’ Up! Watercoloring Class

Good Sunday morning, oops… early afternoon! I’m a bit behind this morning… but I want to share with you the class I held this past Thursday ~ all about celebrating Stampin’ Up! and Watercoloring Month. In preparing for the class I used mostly the Cottage Rose stamp set and incorporated only Joyful Flurry stamp set for the embossing technique. I have yet to put the samples into cards and hope to do that soon, but I did want to share the samples before forgetting.

Here’s #1 ~ the no-line watercoloring on Fluid 100 Watercolor paper and using the water painters & Cottage Rose. Inks were Polished Pink, Mint Macaron, Old Olive, Pale Papaya, So Saffron and the rose was stamped in Sahara Sand.

Stampin' Up! Cottage Rose No-line watercoloring

The trick in each case is not to use too much water… :O) This phrase will be repeated a LOT.

  • stamp the design, get ink in the lid, add a bit of water from the water painter, dab into the color, tap off on grid paper, then color

I really enjoyed this technique, but it does take practice (as does everything!) to not use too much water.

Stampin' Up! Cottage Rose Watercoloring w/ watercolor pencils

This technique has a much softer look but I enjoyed doing this also.

  • stamp the image in STAZON ink on Shimmery White card stock, color image with watercolor pencils, then use a water painter to smooth the lines.

This sounds simple enough but again the trick is not to use too much water. I find coloring relaxing so enjoyed this process.

#3 is the watercolor wash technique which is the background for this image. It barely shows, but is Sahara Sand.

  • get ink in top of ink pad, water card stock with widest painter, add color as desired, let dry

This wash could have been darker but I didn’t want it to overpower the image that would be stamped once dry.

Stampin' Up! Faux Watercoloring

On my goodness… this faux watercoloring was so e-a-s-y; done on Fluid 100 watercolor paper with whatever ink of choice. I chose Old Olive and the leaf is from the Cottage Rose stamp set.

  • stamp image with ink of choice, use water painter to spread color in the image… ink bleeds in the image. Again, be careful not to use too much water. Super quick & easy process.

Stampin' Up! Emboss Resist w/ watercoloring

This process again uses Fluid 100 watercolor paper and embossing powder of choice & re-inkers. The rose is embossed with clear embossing powder and I did not like the look, so didn’t finish coloring the image. The snowflake with shades of blue watercoloring is embossed in white embossing powder and the contrast is super. The upper image is also embossed in white embossing powder but soft shades of Pale Papaya & So Saffron were used – not enough contrast so the image does not show as well. I will probably create another with shades of blue to show off this technique.

  • stamp image w/ VersaMark ink, sprinkle w/ embossing powder & heat set. With re-inkers, place drop or two of the liquid on an acrylic block & w/ the widest water painter, create a wash of color over the stamped & embossed image. Clean brush between ink colors.
Stampin' Up! Pastel Watercoloring with pastel chalks

Shimmer White card stock is used w/ the pastel chalks & of course the water painters. You can clearly see the line of chalks marked on the top Shimmery White to the left. I simply scribbled several lines for the colors I wanted to use.

  • stamp image in STAZON ink, make a line w/ each color of pastel you will use, use the finest tip water painter to get color from the pastel to color the image, clean brush between colors.

I thoroughly enjoyed this technique but again, was careful not to use too much water. I will need to add more color to the tiny flowers (I’m calling them statis) as it doesn’t contrast enough for my taste.

Stampin' Up! Embossing Folder watercoloring technique

This is the last of the techniques used in the Stampin’ Up! watercolor video. It is called Embossing folder watercoloring technique and uses Fluid 100 watercolor paper. You can clearly see variations in the Polished Pink and the old Olive inks used here. The more ink on the painter, the darker it will paint. I actually went over each flower or leaf more than once to add more color. I found this fun but a bit tedious. The raised areas are fairly small and therefore I had to be very careful to only color the raised areas.

  • emboss the Fluid 100 Watercolor paper (Pretty F
lowers Embossing Folder), get ink in lid of ink pad, dip water painter in ink lid and loosely color the raised images.

This was the only technique I have made into a card! I do have full intention of making cards with the other watercolor techniques though – so stay tuned for a later post of those creations. Are you able to see clearly the differences in the techniques? I’m hoping I was able to share that fairly well. But, let me know! Our class really enjoyed this learning process, and some did better than others, as is expected. It simply takes practice to learn how much water to use for various techniques ~ and giving variety in shading helps tremendously. I think you can see that in each of the photos.

Stampin’ Up! Wonderful World Fun Fold

Good Saturday morning! I have a quick & easy card for you today using the Wonderful World stamp set. Remember, this is a stamp set that comes as a bundle with Wonderful World 12 x 12 DSP and is FREE during Sale-a-bration with a $100 order from either the Annual 2022 Catalog or the Jul-Dec 2022 Mini catalog. And if you are in need of either one, please reach out to me.

Wonderful World Fun Fold.1

I began with a standard card base in Thick Basic White (8 1/2 x 5 1/2) and scored at 4 1/4. I then cut the front to 2 1/8. I added a panel of Sweet Sorbet card stock to the front panel, then a smaller piece of 2022-2024 In Color 6×6 DSP, also in Sweet Sorbet. To the inside, I added a coordinated piece of Sweet Sorbet In Color 6×6 DSP, covering the entire inside. I pulled out the Wonderful World stamp set and stamped this double flower in Sweet Sorbet ink. (BTW, anyone know what this flower is called?) I die cut the panel with Stitched Rectangles Dies and adhered it to a Sweet Sorbet piece die cut with the next larger Stitched Rectangle Die. I stamped the sentiment in Basic Gray ink. This comes from Soft Seedlings stamp set which is new in the Jul-Dec 2022 Mini catalog. I tied a bow with 2022-2024 In Color Baker’s Twine in Sweet Sorbet and attached with a rolled glue dot. I colored three Basic Rhinestone Jewels with my Dark Sweet Sorbet Stampin’ Blends and put in place. This panel was now ready to be attached with liquid glue to the right panel. I did this by closing the card and centering the panel. The liquid glue was only on the left side of the added piece!

Wonderful World Fun Fold, inside

To finish the inside, I die cut the same size of Basic White as the stamped panel on the card front – yep, with the Stitched Rectangles Dies. I stamped the greeting with the Go To Greetings stamp set in Basic Gray. I stamped this sweet double leaf in Sweet Sorbet ink from the Wonderful World stamp set. This panel was adhered to the inside, centering it just right. This way it doesn’t show when the card is closed. :O)

Wonderful World Fun Fold.3

For the envelope, I wanted to use that cute double leaf from the Wonderful World stamp set again, so stamped it along the edge of the envelope front. I stamped the same double flower as the card front – all of this in Sweet Sorbet ink. I’ve mentioned before that I prefer monochromatic cards and this is definitely that.

I have needed several general thinking of you cards recently and wanted to use some retired product… here are two more using the Wonderful World stamp set and Sweet Sorbet ink. These are not monochromatic!

Stampin’ Up! NEW Pretty Pop-Up Dies

Yesterday was a bit of a banner day… a Stampin’ Up! shipment was delivered with new goodies. 😁 I couldn’t w-a-i-t to play, but had to as we had choir practice last night with a concert next weekend. But… first thing this morning I got busy and played with these dies first. And here’s what I created.

Pretty Pop-Up Dies.1

What these dies do is create an impression that can be ‘pushed up’ from behind to give the image dimension. I chose to color some of those with various Stampin’ Blends: Cajun Craze for the large butterfly, Granny Apple Green (should have used the Parakeet Party but forgot!), and the new Orchid Oasis. I used a Black Stampin’ Write Marker to color the butterfly body. I added a single Classic Matte Dot for the head of the large butterfly and three smallest of the Basic Rhinestone Jewels for flower centers. I used the fine tip of the Black Stampin’ Write Marker to add dots for some of the flowers. But I AM ahead of myself…

Steps:

  • On a 3 1/4 x 3 1/4 square of Soft Succulent, place the appropriate die (I used the oval from the Pretty Pop-Ups Dies) in the center & run it through the Cut & Emboss machine.
  • With the largest square from the fabulously Stylish Shapes Dies, run the panel through again so that it is 3 x 3 with a stitched border.
  • From the back of the panel, push up the flowers & butterflies to raise them. Color as desired.
  • Adhere the square to a Basic White piece cut 3 14 x 3 14 and set aside.
  • Prepare the card base: Soft Succulent 5 1/2 x 6 3/8, scored at 4 1/4.
  • Cut 2 panels of Basic White (5 1/4 x 2) & run through the Cut & Emboss machine with the Stitched Greenery Die. Adhere to the card front and the small panel inside, both with liquid glue.
  • Close the card and center the Pop-Ups piece, with glue only on the left side of the square.
  • Add a small Linen Thread bow with a glue dot.
Pretty Pop-Ups Dies.2

For the inside… Cut a panel of Basic White 4 x 5 1/4. Run the panel through the Cut & emboss machine with some of the small flower dies and a butterfly from the Pretty Pop-Ups Dies. Color the butterfly lightly with Soft , adding the body with Black Stampin’ Write Marker, then antennae. Stamp the sentiment in Soft Succulent ink using another NEW PRODUCT – Charming Sentiments stamp set. (This has a coordinating die set but I did not use it for this project.). Adhere the panel to the inside of the card & d-o-n-e!

Pretty Pop-Ups Dies.3

I used the same Stitched Greenery Die to create the impression on the envelope flap – and that was it. The card is soft and gentle and precious. I love how it turned out! Can’t wait to try out some of the other dies in this set 👍 Lovely, Lovely.

This and other stamps & dies could be a part of a Starter Kit for you. And now is the perfect time to join – my team of course! Here’s more scoop on the Starter Kit for joining.

Stampin’ Up! Bottled Happiness for the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

Hi Everyone! Welcome to our Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop! There are some super projects for you today – so be sure to follow along to see what everyone has created.

And here is our color challenge for this week.

And here’s the card I created for the challenge.

Bottled Happiness.1

This is as wonderful NEW bundle, the Bottled of Happiness which has a Vintage Bottle Punch that coordinates with it. That’s the light green bottle (Pool Party ink) in the photo that uses the punch. :O) I’ve used the Wisteria Dies (NEW BUNDLE: Wisteria Wishes bundle) for the leaves, to add that ‘this is outside’ idea :O) The sentiment (on Vellum) is stamped in Calypso Coral ink from the Nature’s Prints stamp set (again – NEW) and die cut with one of the Circle Dies. I stamped the floral stamp in Highland Heather ink from the Bottled Happiness stamp set. Now, let me give you some details…

To begin, I stamped the two-step bottle in Pool Party ink using the Bottled Happiness stamp set. I then punched that image with the Vintage Bottle Punch and put dimensionals on the back, but did not remove the covers. I decided exactly where I wanted the bottle on the Basic White panel (3 1/2 x 5), removed the punched bottle and stamped with the Bottled Happiness stamp in Highland Heather ink. I then stamped the squatty bottle in Evening Evergreen ink and the cork in Crumb Cake ink. Now adhere the Pool Party bottle.

I wanted this to look as though the bottles were outside, so I die cut leaves/ branches using the Wisteria Dies in both Evening Evergreen and Soft Succulent card stocks. I also stamped directly on the Basic White panel, the same leaf image using the Wisteria Wishes stamp set in Evening Evergreen ink, then stamped again on a scrap of Basic White, die cut this image with the Wisteria Dies, and added Wink of Stella to several of the leaves. You can see the added sparkle in the photo below.

Bottled Happiness.2

The Basic White die cut leaves/ branch were adhered with mini dimensionals, then the Soft Succulent die cut leaves/ branches were added on that with liquid glue. Additional leaves/ branches die cut (Wisteria Dies) from Evening Evergreen card stock were adhered directly to the panel with liquid glue.

For the sentiment, I stamped on Vellum in Calypso Coral ink using the Nature’s Prints stamp set (love this font & sentiment – it’s super friendly). Since ink takes a bit of time to dry on Vellum, I used my Heat Tool to set the ink quickly. I die cut this with the Layering Circles Dies and adhered with Stampin ‘ Seal so it didn’t show.

The Basic White Panel was added to a piece of Pretty Prints DSP, NEW(4 x 5 1/4) and adhered directly to the Calypso Coral card base (4 1/4 x 11 scored at 5 1/2).

Bottled Happiness.3

For the inside, I used a Blending Brush to add some color to the Basic White panel (4 x 5 1/4) all around the edges and across the top most especially. I kept it soft. I stamped the sentiment from Bottled Happiness stamp set in Evening Evergreen ink. The panel was adhered to the inside of the card with liquid glue and the card was done!

Bottled Happiness.4

For the envelope, I added more Calypso Coral card stock to the flap and trimmed it to fit. It probably should have been embossed, but I didn’t. For the front, I stamped the word Cheer from the Bottled Happiness stamp set by taping off the upper portion of the sentiment, inking the stamp in Evening Evergreen ink, removing the tape and stamping it on the envelope front – and did this three times.

So the color combination is not something I would normally do – but I really like how it all came together – outside my comfort zone and all that. It is good to s-t-r-e-t-c-h ourselves. And I really am liking all the new stamp sets / dies that I used. It’s fun to coordinate and mix.

Stampin’ Up! Daisy Garden and Honeybee Home for the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

HELLOOOO! Exciting things happening today at Stampin’ Up! – FREE SHIPPING ON ORDERS OF $75 & UP. Welcome to the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop… the sketch challenge is as you see it to the right ~ butterflies or bugs, and chose bees from the Honeybee Home bundle. You can see my card below.

Daisy Garden & Honeybee Home.1

I used the Daisy Garden stamp set, stamped in Night of Navy ink on a Basic White panel. The Night of Navy ink makes the flowers look elegant, but the Flowers for Every Garden Ribbon ‘countryfies’ it a bit. I colored the leaves/ stems in Shaded Spruce Blends, a really nice contrast with the navy. I colored the centers of the flowers with Dark Mango Melody Blends.

The bees ~ love these bees! They are stamped in Memento Black ink on Basic White, using the Honeybee Home stamp set. I colored them in Bumblebee for the body and Balmy Blue for the wings – Stampin’ Write Markers! They were die cut with the Honeybee Blooms Dies after coloring. They were attached to the floral panel with dimensionals. The ribbon (Flowers For Every Season Ribbon Pack) was wrapped around the card front and attached in back with Stampin’ Seal+, then the panel was adhered directly to the Night of Navy card base. I took another length of the same ribbon and tied it, then slipped a glue dot behind it to hold it in place.

The sentiment was stamped in Night of Navy ink on another Basic White scrap using the Honeybee Home stamp set and fussy cut, put on dimensionals and adhered on top of the ribbon. Front … done!

Daisy Garden & Honeybee Home.2

For the inside, I used the Honeybee Home stamp set to stamp the flowers in Night of Navy ink on a Basic White panel. I again used the Bumblebee Marker to add color to the flower. I then stamped the bumblebee from Honeybee Home stamp set in Memento Black ink and colored it with Bumblebee Marker & Balmy Blue Marker – as on the front of the card. l-o-v-e! This panel was adhered to the inside of the card & bingo… card was complete.

Daisy Garden & Honeybee Home.3

For the envelope, I stamped the bumblebees in Memento ink on the flap three times and colored them as before… Bumblebee and Balmy Blue Markers. For the front of the envelope, I stamped the same floral pattern from Honey Home stamp set in Night of Navy ink and colored the flowers with Bumblebee Marker.

This card can be used for SO MANY occasions – just add a sentiment inside or write whatever you want. Versatility is the key… again… l-o-v-e…

Stampin’ Up! Artfully Layered Fun Fold for the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

Oh my – who doesn’t love a fun fold? This was so. much. fun. And it fits all the criteria for the…

So yes, Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop AND a color challenge. I just may have used more than three :O), but who’s counting! Here’s my card:

Artfully Layered Fun Fold.1

This was inspired by several folks who have made this fun fold, but mainly my upline Mary Deatherage. What makes this fun is the ladybug is sort of ‘free’. In other words, that diagonal is movable. This fun fold is called, I think, a Corner pop-up. I used three different Designer Series Papers on this card: Artfully Composed 12 x 12, (retiring May 2), In The Wild 12 x 12 (also retiring May 2) and Waves of the Ocean (available only while supplies last). The stamp sets used were: Artfully Layered for the inside sentiment + the greens on the envelope; Artistically Inked for the front sentiment. I also used the Tropical Layers Dies, Tailor Made Tags Dies for the sentiment banner on the front, and the very, very sweet Ladybug Builder Punch. Card stocks used were: Thick Basic White for the card base, Evening Evergreen for background pieces and the ladybug, Shimmer Vellum in Pale Papaya for the wings of the ladybug, Calypso Coral and Just Jade for the leaf die cuts. I used Just Jade ink for the front sentiment and Calypso Coral ink for the inside, Old Olive ink for the front of the envelope. Embellishments: Bumblebee Trinkets, Brushed Metallic Adhesive-Backed Dots and Open Weave Ribbon in Pale Papaya. This card fits perfectly in an A2 sized envelope and will definitely need extra postage due to thickness. It will also need an ‘overlay’ so the bumblebees do not poke through the envelope. 😳 So fun to do…. Can’t wait to see your creations with this fun fold :O)

Here are more pictures of this fun fold:

See in the center photo just above how some of the Artfully Composed DSP is covered by the Evening Evergreen card stock for the ‘flap’? I just didn’t like that… and made yet another card and look what I did with that bendable flap… I adhered it first and put the DSP panel on top of it. I like this MUCH better :O) The green shown is THE BRAND NEW PARAKEET PARTY in the 2022-2023 Annual Catalog :O)

Card Cuts will be listed below along with a showcase of all the products used on this card. But I urge you to look on YouTube for really good directions. Try here.

Stampin’ Up! Waves of Inspiration

Today’s card uses mostly Waves of the Ocean 12 x 12 DSP ~ it’s stunning! Some of the prettiest paper ever.

Waves of the Ocean DSP is adhered to a layer of Pacific Point then directly to the Basic White card base. A coordinating layer of Waves of the Ocean DSP was adhered to Calypso Coral card stock, put on dimensionals & attached to the card front. Stamp the pelican on a Basic White panel in Crumb Cake ink, then with a dauber add a bit more to specific areas of the stamp to add more dimension. It’s better if using a Stamparatus to do this as it can be stamped multiple times and be in the right spot :O) Die cut the pelican using the Waves Dies, then add with dimensionals. Stamp the sentiment in Pacific Point ink on a Basic White piece and die cut with a Waves Dies banner die. I then took a length of the same DSP and clipped to make banner points, folded it back on itself and slipped it through each end of the banner and adhering it together. This was done on both ends of the banner. I put dimensionals on the left end of the banner and liquid glue on the other and adhered it over the bottom of the pelican. I added three of the Rhinestone Waves Basic Jewels and the card front was done :O)

For the inside I again stamped the pelican with Crumb Cake ink on a panel of Basic White, using a sponge dauber to add more Crumb Cake in specific areas. I then took a ruler and a Balmy Blue Marker to create the fun lines around the pelican. I also used a Pacific Point Marker for more color. I adhered the panel to a Pacific Point piece and then into the card inside.

For the envelope I used the Stamparatus for this very large wave stamp and Pacific point ink to stamp the wave. Notice how the wave disappears off the bottom edge – I did this intentionally! I used a Blending Brush and a bit of Balmy Blue ink to color in the wave. It doesn’t show much in this photo, but it’s very cool!! And the card/ envelope were done!

Now let me tell you a bit about this stunning DSP AND the Rhinestone Waves Basic Jewels ~ they are only available while supplies last. The Waves of Inspiration stamp set and coordinating Waves Dies will be available in the 2022-2023 Annual Catalog, but not the DSP or the jewels. So you know, get them now!
