Stampin’ Up! Bee My Valentine Gatefold card for the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

Happy Thursday and welcome to the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop! We have a color challenge today that’s extra fun – LOTS of color – and it works perfectly with the Bee Mine 12×12 DSP. I’ve also used the Bee My Valentine stamp set and coordinating Bee Builder Punch. Can you tell I like this set? I’ve used it quite a bit lately :O)

Stampin' Up! Bee My Valentine Gatefold front

Oh my goodness… I had such fun working with this Bee Mine 12 x 12 DSP. It just puts a smile on my face. The bee is too incredibly CUTE!

How to make this card… Cut the card base (Petal Pink) 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 and score long side at 2 1/8; burnish. Fold opposite end of card to meet the folded in side – that is the gatefold! Easy right? Now decorate. I used Basic Black for the background of the DSP, then the DSP layers on both folded in card fronts. And notice, the gatefold is on it’s side, so landscape like after folding. In other words it’s important to realize which direction the card will open for the directional DSP!

I next created the belly band. It is 7/8 x 11 since I had to 12″ card stock (bummer!) But it worked!!! I simply gently folded the band so it met in the middle (wrapping it around the card) and lightly burnished. I cut of piece of Basic Black to cover this ‘not quite meeting together’ strip (4 1/8 x 3/4) and adhered it in place – it’s just for the front after all. I cut the Bee Mine 12x 12 DSP 5/8 x 4 and adhered it in place. To create the central design, I pulled out the More Dazzle 6×6 SDSP and with the Hexagon Punch, punched. It looks like a honeycomb cell :O). Next I punched another hexagon from basic white and trimmed it down a bit. I stamped the sentiment in Petal Pink ink using the Bee My Valentine stamp set and adhered it with liquid glue to the More Dazzle hexagon. To make certain it adhered well, I placed an acrylic block on top while I created the bee.

I stamped the bee body from Bee My Valentine stamp set with Daffodil Delight ink on a Basic White scrap, then the stripes for the bee body in Memento ink. I stamped the cute face in Memento ink as well – then punched it out with the Bee Builder Punch. I stamped the antennae in Memento ink – also from the Bee My Valentine stamp set and punched it out with another section of the Bee Builder Punch, adhered it in place. I stamped the wings in Petal Pink ink on a scrap of Petal Pink card stock and punched. I punched another set of wings from vellum and added them over top of the stamped wings, and attached both to the bee with glue dots. I adhered the bee to the hexagon and attached this to the belly band with dimensionals. I added the Hearts & Flowers embellishments in Pool Party. I added a bit of Wink of Stella as well but it doesn’t show in the photos. Cute, cute.

For the inside of the card, I took a piece of Basic White and stamped it with this whimsical ‘line’ the bee makes when it flies. Yep, from Bee My Valentine stamp set. I stamped the sweet hearts from the same stamp set in Pool Party ink, stamped off once. This was adhered in place inside the card. Done, done.

For the envelope I did the same stamping as inside the card and more Bee Mine DSP on the flap, trimmed to fit. I had such fun making this card – just kept smiling the entire time :O)
