Stampin’ Up! Celebrate Sunflowers

Ah, Super Bowl day… do you have a favorite team to win today? I’ll be honest, I don’t, but I will watch and cheer one of them. This has not been a formidable football season. Whatever you decide to do today, be safe.

Todays card was inspired by a magazine I received from a women’s organization to which I belong. The cover artist was Elizabeth Barlow and the painting is beautiful. This doesn’t show off the painting nearly as well but it is a depiction of it using Sunflower Dies.

Jan/ Feb P.E.O. Record – Celebrate Sunflowers – #1

To create the sunflower itself, I used Mango Melody card stock and the sunflower die from Sunflowers Dies. I die cut two of them, punching out all the little pieces from one of them. I did some highlighting and darkening on both pieces using various Stampin Blends. But first… on the sunflower that has the pieces remaining in it, I very carefully turned it over and taped all the backside, holding the pieces in place. I turned it over and began the shading: using first the light and dark Mango Melody Blends, then both the light and dark Pumpkin Pie Blends, shading out into the petals. Around the very center of the flower, I used just a bit of light Cajun Craze Blends. I did the same on the sunflower with all the petals as well. With the very center, I took the Cajun Craze marker and made tiny dots, then did the same with Garden Green marker. They have a finer tip and I could make very tiny dots. I layered the open sunflower on the other with mini dimensionals and set it aside.

The card base is Pacific Point card stock. I took another panel of Pacific Point and ran it through the Tasteful Textile 3D embossing folder, then adhered it with liquid glue to the card base. I put dimensionals on the back of the double sunflower and adhered it to the card front. I then took Garden Green cardstock and the Pierced Blooms Dies and die cut two stems. I adhered them side by side to create a larger stem for the sunflower.

I used the sentiment from the Celebrate Sunflowers stamp set, stamped it in Memento ink on Basic White card stock, then die cut it with a die from Pierced Blooms Dies. This is an awesome banner die – I really like the shape and the size! I put dimensionals on the back of the sentiment banner and adhered it to the card front. I then tied a double bow with the Whisper White Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon and attached it with a glue dot.

I really like the way this turned out. If I make another, which I might, I would probably use a patterned background that is mostly blue. I think the contrast would be better and would show off the sunflower more. But for this card, I wanted it to be similar to the magazine cover, so stuck with the solid.
