Stampin’ Up! Victorian Piecing Card

Today’s card reminds me of a Victorian pieced quilt. It’s super easy and only a bit tricky. It also requires just one bit of fussy cutting. Of course, with different papers, perhaps it would be die cuts. At any rate – let’s get to it.

Victorian Piecing Card.1

Does this look a bit like a quilt to you? And the DSP has a victorian look to me as well. When choosing it, that wasn’t a factor, it was the design I liked. And let’s face it, I’m ‘stuck’ on the Wonderful World Bundle!! I’ll have different papers and different bundles all week, I promise. It’s just this bundle is full of pretty papers and the distinctive stamps are just stunning ~ so I’ve played with them a lot.

The Wonderful World 12 x 12 Designer Series Paper is cut 3 3/4 x 5, trimmed on the diagonal, then each piece trimmed again. And no, the second trimming does not need to be the same. In fact, it’s better if it isn’t. And if you make a similar card, yours will turn out differently. I made an error in my first measurement and had to shorten. That’s why two of the ends are squared off :O( I rather liked the look and decided to go with it in lieu of cutting another DSP panel. When trimming each diagonal, I recommend keeping those pieces together. It just helps during placement. The other hint is direction of pattern. If you look closely at the design you see a continuation of the pattern – the leaves match even though there is separation.

Adhere each piece on the card stock ~ this happens to be Mossy Meadow, 4 1/8 x 5 3/8. Determine the placement of your sentiment. In liked it best in the center & went with that. The vellum layer is cut with All That Dies and added to the card front with dimensionals. The sentiment is from Go To Greetings stamp set and was stamped in Mossy Meadow ink. This strip was added over the top of the vellum with dimensionals on each end. I fussy cut one of the flowers from the Wonderful World DSP and adhered it to the sentiment strip with liquid glue. Iridescent Pearl Jewels were added after the sentiment, making it even more Victorian looking. Finally, a circle of linen thread was tucked under the flower with a glue dot. The entire panel was added to the Pear pizzazz card base with dimensionals and the card front was complete.

Victorian Piecing Card, inside

I used one of the strips removed from improper cutting of the initial piece to place at the bottom of the Basic White panel. I then stamped this very delicate double leaf in stamped off Mossy Meadow ink. I adhered to a Mossy Meadow piece then to the insider of the card – and that was it for the card.

Victorian Piecing Card.3

The envelope got more of the same pattern of Wonderful World DSP to the flap and that sweet double leaf stamped on the front in Mossy Meadow ink stamped off once – from the Wonderful World stamp set. I think next time, I will start with a smaller DSP piece and make more cuts and maybe “stitching” lines too.
