Stampin’ Up! Cathedral Window #2

Golly – I thought this was set to post ~ & it wasn’t 😦 Today is Sep 11, an ominous day for the United States. Remembering the fallen, the brave who fought to save others ~ a pivotal place in our history. I remember the chills I felt as though it were yesterday, and the slight panic as well. My hubby was out of the country at the time and one of our daughters was slated to be at the Towers that day. To my relief, she was working from home! Spoke with hubby some time later, but due to travel & security issues he was out of the country for a bit. It was certainly an emotional time… Never, never forget!

Whew… that was tough. I still get emotional about it. Today’s card is another cathedral window card, ‘cuz my card class wanted to learn how to do it.

Cathedral Window #2.1

I used Heartwarming Hugs DSP for the ‘windows and Pear Pizzazz card stock for the card base. The sentiment comes from Poinsettia Petals stamp set ‘cuz I like that font! The leaf flourishes are from the Tidings & Trimmings stamp set, as is the stocking and the sentiment on the envelope front. Here’s another photo, this time with the card front dry embossed with the Tasteful Textures 3D EF (done after stamping!)

Cathedral Window #2.2

Gosh – the dry embossing doesn’t show, but in ‘real life’ it does and I like it better and that’s how we did it in the card class. OK… I bet you want more detail, right?

  • Cut or punch 1 1/2″ circles from coordinating DSP (here I used Heartwarming Hugs) ~ creating 10 circles
  • cut a 1″ square out of heavier card stock, OR out of a card board
  • Place square in center of each circle, score all four sides. Leaving square in place fold edges up. Remove square & burnish fold lines

Using graph paper cut a 4″ square. Draw a line from opposite points, turn and mark center of that line. See photo! Placing the line from point to point on your paper trimmer at 3/4″ trim one side. Turn 180 degrees and do the same again. See photo for finished piece.

Cathedral Window #2. template

Cover the trimmed graph paper with Stampin’ Seal. Place this on your grid paper, sticky side up, for attaching the windows. This will keep everything square. Begin placing ‘windows’ as such… refer to photo below… making certain each window is smack up against/ touching the other.

  • top & bottom center windows
  • center two windows
  • top left & bottom right windows
  • top right & bottom left windows
  • far left & far right windows on center row
Cathedral Window #2. template 2

Your windows are now created on a graph paper and straight as ever and the hardest part is done! Next, using your Stamparatus, place the finished template on the card stock, noting where the sentiment should be. Remove the template and stamp the sentiment (Poinsettia Petals stamp set): first in Mossy Meadow ink, then clean stamp and stamp again with VersaMark ink; sprinkle with clear embossing powder and heat set. Stamp leaf flourishes where desired in same manner or simply with Mossy Meadow ink (which is what I did) using the Tidings & Trimmings stamp set. Dry emboss with the Tasteful Textures 3D EF.

Turn the finished template to the back side and run Stampin’ Seal along the back, including the overlapping points of the windows; adhere in place. Add Red Rhinestone Basic Jewels randomly, but always in odd numbers. And voila~ your card front is complete!

Cathedral Window #2, inside

For the inside, I kept this part really simple… stamp the really cute stocking in stamp off once Real Red ink on the Basic White panel. This stamp comes from Tidings & Trimmings stamp set. Adhere the panel to a Mossy Meadow piece then into the inside of the card.

Cathedral Window #2

For the envelope… stamp the same stocking in stamped off Real Red ink, then stamp the sentiment in Pear Pizzazz ink. Both the stocking and the sentiment are from the Tidings & Trimmings stamp set. Cover the flap with the same Heartwarming Hugs DSP, trim to fit and this card is done!

Yay – this card seems complicated but really isn’t. Getting the windows perfectly aligned is key and using the graph paper is a major helpful trick! Ya gotta try it!
